[ Sarah knows an emergency when she sees one. She calls Sarissa as soon as she gets the text. ]

What's going on? You okay?

( it's a different Sarissa voice than usual. this is calm Sarissa, take apart a bomb in three minutes Sarissa. thing is, bombs are a little easier to get her head around than people. )

I got a text. It came from a guy knew about us. I played dumb for a while, but he knew - claims he wants to help. I think Rachel must've been running her mouth.

[ Sarah's stomach drops. Fuck. They waited too long. ]

Don't worry. I'm pinning down exactly who he found out from, who else knows. Soon as I know, you'll know. I asked him for proof he wants to help, and not... do anything else. Should I tell him he has to talk to you?

( Was that the sound of a gun being loaded and doing that fancy gun clicky loady sound? Yes. Yes it might have been. )

And then I'm going to go visit Rachel, if you're okay with that.

Yeah. I mean, we do what we have to do. [ A lot of times, that involves threatening Rachel with a gun.

Sarah sighs over the line, then says, ] I was gonna wait til after your birthday to do anything, but maybe plans have just changed.

[magnitudes]

Maybe it can be a coming out party instead. ( There's a wry note of humour in there, somewhere. ) It'll be okay, Sarah, I meant that. Just figure we want to get out ahead of this before any more people find out.

( A quiet exhale. )
I'll give him your number, then, unless you'd rather call him?

[coppelganger]

Okay. [ She says it softly, then repeats it. ] Okay.

Yeah. Give him my number. Let's get this shit over with.

[magnitudes]

Alright. I'll get back to you once I've spoken to Rachel, but if you need me before then I'm keeping my phone handy. I've got your back.

[coppelganger]

I know. Thanks. [ She means it. It's as close to saying "I love you" as she gets without actually uttering the words. ]

[magnitudes]

Anytime, Champion. I promise. ( An echo back. )

Later. ( Sarissa hangs up, but she keeps the device resting against her chin and mouth for a second before she double checks her gun and goes to check in with Rachel. )
